who are you, really, and where are you going?

+ What's on: Who Are You, Really?, by Mikky Ekko

Since it's been two months since I put Foxhole Court out, I guess it's time for a status update? I'm hard at work on Raven King, but Raven King is---difficult. I've always had more trouble with it than either of the other two books. When I say I've spent the last two months working on the same two chapters, I'm not exaggerating. I have written, rewritten, and rearranged these few scenes so many times I feel I could recite them all from heart.

I'll be honest and say sometimes it's so frustrating I have to walk away from the project, but I at least try to stay within the Foxes' universe when I do. I've made notes for the major changes book 3 needs and I've toyed with the back stories & side ficlets. Of course, I'm just as likely to be found screwing around with the Foxes' playlist, which is infinitely less productive but at least twice as fun.

Anyway, this week I finally broke free of those two chapters. I've got one last related scene to wrap up and hopefully it's all downhill from there. I think there're only three chapters left, and those ones are going to be fun.

But have I mentioned yet how aggravating it is getting this couple together? They work so much better this way, seriously, and I don't regret reshaping the books' relationships, but that third person was the instigator and driving force. Without him there to get things moving, it's just like oh my god you impossible assholes one chapter after another.

Slowest. Relationship. Ever. Le sigh.

Anyway, back to work, I guess.

Hello. I read Foxhole Court yesterday and finished at 3am today. I couldnt be more estatic to hear that you are already working on a sequel.

I just want to compliment you for various reasons. First, the way your sentences is form. You make me want to read every word, like really. And the way you interpret Neil's wounded past is always so surreal. Ive loved him since the first chapter. His little quirks, the obsession over his binder's contents or his instinct to always plan his exit rout at every location he goes to weirdly endears him to me.

But perhaps who takes the cake for being paranoid much is Andrew. And OMG, is it just me, or does Andrew and Neil heats up the atmosphere? Im always at the edge of my seat whenever Andrew and Neil talks on the same space, alone.

Andrew is so agressive, but Neil isnt particularly a coward person, so they always engage in these stimulating verbal tirades. Their conversation always feels like foreplay to me, like its charge with this undercurrent sexual tension that I cant give an exact meaning. But despite it all... they both seem to derive some kind of thrill from their arguments.

Andrew also screws up with Neil's mind a lot, pushing and pulling him and Neil is helpless to do otherwise, and cant break away from these mind games that Andrew plays on him. Their dynamic unravels so much about their self too, its like i get to learn more of Neil when he talks to Andrew and vice versa.

This guy who has bullied Neil since day one and made his life a miserable existence, promises to protect him now from Riko and his family. I wonder how Andrew will deal with 2 bodies that he needs to protect now?

I can understand Neil's mentality though. The power which Andrew emits is very tantalizing and seeing how Kevin, a cautious guy like him, also submits himself to it proves to be irresistible. And this burden he has, must be so nice for him let his guard down for a minute and let someone else take it from him, even just for a second.

Hehe ive blab too much. I really think your story rocks and i love every character in it, so i hope you can release the sequel soon and quench my thirst for more Andrew/Neil interaction.

PS: longer word count means much more fun for your readers...hehehe

longbondpaper42 : Thank you so much for taking a chance on Foxhole Court! I'm really glad you enjoyed it (and I hope you at least slept in some!). Book 2 is out with the beta-readers now, so hopefully it'll be ready for publication soon-ish.

I love writing Andrew and Neil's private conversations; their interactions definitely make these endless revisions more fun. It's a constant push and pull--more so in book 2 than book 1.

And this burden he has, must be so nice for him let his guard down for a minute and let someone else take it from him, even just for a second.

Exactly ♥♥

ginia : Mmm, sort of? Not really? It's an uphill road getting these two together and it's pretty one-sided right now. But eventually!

I took naps! I was sleepy but i wanted to read the whole story and sleep with thoughts of happy ending.

Then i read the last chapter and your words for a sequel. I didn't know whether to be happy that its gonna be extended, or sad coz i had to wait.

But my ambivalence was more pronounce only after i slept and had nothing to read. LOL

- This push and pull between them is twice more in raven king? OMG. Im drooling here already. Possibilities, possibilites.

- I really like Andrew, specially when he's medicated and just sarcastic. Im scared of him when he is cross, but he is very intelligent for someone who's on antipsychotic meds.
I really thought he was gonna be some plain bully who gets fooled around a lot by his buddies and would have no power aside from his fist. But i was really amaze how un- stereotype he is.

-He and Neil seems like the anti-heroes who aren't really? lol

"Exactly ♥♥"
- any less than Neil's current situation would mean least moving, in my opinion.

Injustice had always been a thought provoking subject eversince.

And its always universal that every human being would want someone to support them.

But being alone, for me, i think, trumps all struggle in the world.

omg, ultrafail. I didnt know i used 2 accounts. Im ginia but i used my LJ account Longbondpaper42. Haha, sorry if i cause a bit of confusion.

Mmm, sort of? Not really? It's an uphill road getting these two together and it's pretty one-sided right now. But eventually!

- gosh, who could it be? aside from my bias Neil and Andrew, i havent really thought anyone from foxhole to have potential as couple. Kevin and Neil? omg, its them isnt it? God, should i stop having pipe dreams about Neil and Andrew? *cries*

I also read in your other post about Dan and their coach, you are not planning them together r u?
I kinda like how Dan mesh with Matt, hehe.
But seriously, i envision a father/daughter rel for them, they're like two kindred spirits whose swimming hard just to survived this pool of dysfunctional people called foxhole team. LOL

- or im being totally dense here and its really the obvious people who you are planning to couple.

- i wonder if its fair game to assume there is a gay couple here too, aside from Nicky and his bf, that would be apparent in raven Kings. I dont really know if this is the type of coming of age story that you aim, but heck i have no complaints, id be happy to in fact. LOL

-sorry if i seem to troll your blog now. im just like to say something while its still in my head. ^_^

ginia : Oh, no, Dan & Wymack are too platonic. Fierce and unquestioning, but platonic. Dan is head over heels in love with Matt despite herself.

Haha, are they "obvious people"? One reason I like the Foxes is I feel that, with enough work, I could probably hook up just about any combination. ♥ And no, Nicky & his bf are not the only m/m couple in the series.
